The importance of ethics

First: Adhering to good morals and avoiding bad ones is an act of obedience to God and His Messenger. Numerous texts from the Book of God Almighty command us to adopt good morals, and many of them are explicitly stated. Among these is the statement of God Almighty: { Indeed, God commands justice and doing good and liberality to kith and kin. And He forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. } [An-Nahl: 90] And the Almighty says: { Adopt forgiveness, enjoin what is right, and turn away from the ignorant. } [Al-A’raf: 199] And the Almighty says: { O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful. } [Al-Hujurat: 6] She also forbade reprehensible morals , including the words of God Almighty: { O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of wickedness after faith. And whoever does not repent – then it is those who are the wrongdoers. * O you who have believed, avoid “Many suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And do not spy, nor backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful .” [Al-Hujurat: 11-12] Since the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, complied with Allah’s command in all his affairs, in word and deed, and enjoined every good moral that was commanded in the Qur’an, and refrained from every bad moral that was prohibited in the Qur’an, his character was the Qur’an. He, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, also enjoined good character. Abu Dharr, may Allah be pleased with him, said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to me: ” Fear Allah wherever you are, and follow a bad deed with a good one, which will erase it, and treat people with good character .” Therefore, adhering to good morals is an act of obedience to God Almighty and His Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace. Second: Good morals are one of the components of a Muslim’s personality: (Man is a body and a soul, outward and inward, and Islamic morals represent the inner image of man, which is located in the heart, and this inner image is the foundation of the Muslim’s personality. Man is not measured by his height and width, or his color and beauty, or his poverty and wealth, but rather by his morals and actions that express these morals. God Almighty says: { O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes So that you may know one another. Indeed, the most honorable of you in the sight of God is the most righteous of you . [Al-Hujurat: 13] And the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “ God does not look at your bodies or your images, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds .” The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, also said: “ People who boast about their dead fathers must stop. They are nothing but the coal of Hellfire, or they will be more insignificant to God than a beetle that rolls its nose over excrement. God has removed from you the pride of the Age of Ignorance and its boasting about fathers. There is only a pious believer and a wicked, wretched one. People are the children of Adam, and Adam was created from dust .” Third: The close connection between morals and the Islamic religion, both in terms of belief and law: The connection between morals and belief is very close; therefore, God Almighty often links faith with righteous deeds, of which good morals are one of the pillars. Belief without morals is like a tree without shade or fruit. As for the connection between morals and law, law includes acts of worship and dealings, and acts of worship inevitably produce good morals if the Muslim establishes them in the most perfect manner. So Allah the Almighty said: { And establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing. } [Al-Ankabut: 45], and He said about zakat: { Take alms from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them thereby .} [ At-Tawbah : 103], and He said about fasting: { Fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you that you may become righteous. } [Al-Baqarah: 183], and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “ Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it, Allah has no need for him to give up.” His food and drink . And He said about Hajj: { Hajj is [during] well-known months, so whoever has made Hajj obligatory upon himself therein shall not have sexual relations nor commit wickedness nor dispute during Hajj. And whatever good you do – Allah knows it. And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah. And fear Me, O you of understanding .} [Al-Baqarah: 197] As for the connection between morals and dealings, all dealings are based on good morals in the words and actions of the Muslim, and anyone who contemplates the teachings of Islam will see this clearly and distinctly. Fourth: Ethics have a significant impact on the behavior of the individual and society: (The importance of Islamic ethics is evident in their impact on the behavior of the individual and society. As for their impact on the behavior of the individual, it is due to what they plant in the soul of their owner of mercy, truthfulness, justice, honesty, modesty, chastity, cooperation, solidarity, sincerity, humility, and other sublime values and ethics. For the individual, ethics are the foundation of success and prosperity. God Almighty says: { Indeed, he has succeeded who purifies it, * And he has failed who instills it with corruption .} [Ash-Shams: 9-10], and the Almighty says: { Indeed, he has succeeded who purifies himself, and remembers the name of his Lord and prays .} [Al-A’la: 14-15]. Purification, in its connotation and meaning, means: refining the soul, inwardly and outwardly, in its movements and stillness. As for its effect on the behavior of the entire society, morals are the foundation for building human societies, whether Islamic or non-Islamic. This is confirmed by the Almighty’s saying: { When there comes the help of Allah and the conquest, and you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes.} So glorify the praises of your Lord and ask His forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance . (An-Nasr: 1-3) Righteous deeds supported by advising one another to do what is right and advising one another to be patient in the face of temptations and challenges can build a fortified society that is immune to the factors of deterioration and decline. The affliction of nations and civilizations does not lie in the weakness of their material capabilities or their scientific achievements, but rather in the moral values that prevail within them and with which they are adorned. Fifth: Noble morals are a social necessity (In any human society, its members cannot live in harmony, cooperation, and happiness unless they are bound together by strong ties of noble morals. Even if we assume that a society was established on the basis of the exchange of material benefits only, without there being a higher purpose behind that, then the safety of this society requires, at the very least, the morals of trust and honesty. Noble morals are a social necessity that no society can do without . From societies, when morals are lost, which are the indispensable mediator for human harmony with his fellow human being, the members of society disintegrate and fight, and plunder their interests, and then this leads them to collapse and then to destruction. Can you imagine a society devoid of noble morals? What would such a society look like? How could there be trust in science, knowledge, and information, and the guarantee of rights, without the virtue of honesty? How could people coexist in security and stability, and how could they cooperate in work within a shared environment, without the virtue of trustworthiness? How could a nation be capable of establishing an ideal civilization without the virtues of brotherhood, cooperation, love, and altruism? How can a community be qualified to build great glory were it not for the virtue of courage in repelling the aggression of aggressors and the injustice of oppressors, and were it not for the virtues of justice, mercy, benevolence, and repelling evil with what is better?! How can a person be qualified to ascend the ranks of human perfection if his selfishness dominates him, diverting him from all giving, sacrifice, and altruism? Human experiences and historical events have shown that the rise of the moral forces of nations and peoples is concomitant with, and proportional to, their rise on the ladder of virtuous morality, and that the collapse of the moral forces of nations and peoples is concomitant with, and proportional to, the collapse of their morals. There is a direct, always ascending and descending relationship between moral forces and morals. This is because the virtuous morals of the individuals of nations and peoples represent the firm bonds by which social ties are formed. When these bonds are absent or broken among individuals, social ties cannot find a place to be formed. When social ties are lost, the millions in the nation that has become disunited from each other are provided with the strength of individuals only, not with the strength of the group. Rather, perhaps the scattered forces within it are a force among them, in addition to the strength of its enemy. If the morals of the individuals of nations represent the bonds of connection between them, then the Islamic social systems represent the ties that bind the bonds to the bonds, thus forming a strong, cohesive human mass that does not humiliate or degrade. . Sixth: The importance of morals in calling to God Almighty (Whoever thinks that people enter religion only because they are convinced rationally is undoubtedly mistaken… Many people enter religion because they see that the people of this religion have good morals, and that the callers to God have good morals, and there is much evidence in this regard… Uprightness in morals has a significant impact and profound benefits. Nothing is more indicative of this than what is stated in the Prophet’s biography, which states that the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) morals were admired by the polytheists before his mission, to the point that they attested to his truthfulness and trustworthiness. On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: ” When this verse was revealed: ‘And warn your nearest relatives ‘ [al-Shu’ara’: 214], the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘ Tell me, if I were to inform you that cavalry was emerging from the foot of this mountain, would you believe me?’ They said: We have never known you to tell a lie. He said: I am a warner to you before a severe punishment . These wonderful behavioral patterns began to have an impact on the spread of this religion in some areas that the conquest did not reach. Entire nations have embraced this true religion when they saw the good example embodied in good morals by righteous Muslim individuals who practiced their righteous conduct. They were like a lamp-bearer illuminating his path for himself with his lamp, so others see that light and are seen by it. There is nothing more beautiful than it in the heart of darkness. Based on that, they quickly embraced it without any motive other than the good example. Perhaps a single characteristic of what the religion commands is translated into life by a righteous Muslim, having an impact that cannot be compared. With the results of direct preaching, because people may be repelled by words that they imagine the speaker has an interest in, and better than those qualities is adhering to good morals, which are the first thing seen in a Muslim person, and through which he or she is judged… Seventh: The importance of ethics in bringing happiness to individuals and societies. There is no doubt that happiness, all happiness, lies in faith in God and righteous deeds. His happiness is proportionate to the degree to which a Muslim adheres to the teachings of Islam in his behavior and ethics. (Adherence to the rules of Islamic ethics is sufficient to achieve the greatest proportion of… happiness for the individual human being, for the human community, and then for all partners in life on this earth, in a very ingenious way in which reconciliation is achieved in the possible proportions between the needs and demands of the individual on the one hand, and the needs of… And the demands of the group, on the other hand, in which each person with a right is given his right, or a portion of his right according to a fair proportion required by the general distribution surrounded by truth and justice. It is clear in this element that the foundations of Islamic ethics do not neglect seeking the happiness of the individual who practices the virtues of morality and avoids its vices, nor do they neglect seeking the happiness of the group that deals with each other with the virtues of morality and avoids its vices. The magnificence of the ethics that Islam guides to appears in what it contains of amazing success Between the different demands of the individual on the one hand, and the group on the other, and it appears in what it achieves of partial units of happiness in the conditions of worldly life to the extent permitted by the permanent and fixed laws of the universe that include all workers, whether they believe in God or disbelieve, whether they are sincere in their intention to Him or not. 0 00sharing
